Date: October 21, 2016
Room: Wells 030
Alex Leavitt, UX Researcher at Facebook
Video games have been of interest to social scientists for decades, but only until recently has it been possible to gather and analyze server log data from distributed players and their practices all around the world. This talk explores the potentials and pitfalls of working with digital video game data that tracks player behaviors as they interact in massively multiplayer online games. Alex Leavitt, PhD (Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, University of Southern California) and UX Researcher at Facebook, will discuss his research and what we can learn from online games about player behaviors, gender disparities, social networks, and more.
